Advocacy

Our Advocacy, representing our Members, is driven by the following principles:

  1. We represent the voices, needs, and aspirations of First Nations Members, ensuring they have control over decisions that affect them.
  2. Our advocacy is grounded in cultural values, respect for Country, Elders, languages, and customs.
  3. Our advocacy is transparent, accountable, and responsive to Members input.
  4. We build strong, respectful relationships with stakeholders, governments and allies, to amplify First Nations voices without compromising Member priorities.
  5. We maintain independence from political or external pressures, ensuring advocacy reflects our Member priorities, not outside agendas.
  6. We focus on strengths, resilience, and success stories of First Nations Members rather than deficit narratives.

In 2024 – 25, FNMA undertook a number of submissions and consultations with government to ensure our sector was heard, outlining their needs barriers and opportunities to improve our sector.

  • Coalition of Peaks
  • Pre-Budget 2025/26 Submission to the Australian Treasury
  • Digital Inclusion.

FNMA was successful in the Commonwealth Government providing additional funding to the sector of $12 million over 3 years.
