About FNMA

First Nations Media Australia (FNMA) is the national peak body for First Nations media and communications. We’re here to empower First Nations people through a strong, culturally connected media industry that reflects and celebrates our voices, cultures, and communities.

Our work is shaped by our Strategic Plan and, most importantly, by our members’ 10 Calls to Action – a shared roadmap to grow and strengthen the First Nations media sector.

Founded in 2001 to support remote Indigenous media, FNMA became the national peak body in 2016/17. Today, we proudly represent not-for-profit First Nations organisations, broadcasters, and media makers right across Australia.

What do we do?

  • Stay connected with our members – making sure their voices guide everything we do.
  • Advocate for our sector – championing our Strategic Plan and Calls to Action.
  • Represent the sector nationally – building partnerships and promoting the value of First Nations media.
  • Support sustainability and self-determination – helping our sector grow stronger through investment, skills, and strategy.

We’re also a voice for the sector itself, ensuring First Nations communities have access to the information and resources they need to thrive in media and communications.

Above all, we work to celebrate and share the rich diversity of First Nations cultures, languages, and perspectives – both within our communities and with the wider Australian public.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple truth: our members come first.
